OH NO! CABLE JACK AT THE ELECTRIC OUTLET!!!!!

March 9th, 2010

Wrong!  Wrong!  Wrong!!!

Have you ever seen a cable jack at the same location as the electric outlet?  This is so very wrong – but why do we see it everywhere?

It looks cool!  Hey, we can hang a TV and plug it in to the outlet and cable!  Wow ~ how neat!

But think about this – where do you put your cable box?  Back in the day we could plug coax right into the back of the old CRT TV – but times have changed.  We want HD!  We use HDMI!  We have gaming systems, DVD players, and computers hook up – TV is not just for cable anymore.

Recently, we saw a previously pre-wired home with 3 electrical outlets with cable jacks about 3-4 feet from the ceiling.  An electrician once confessed that he does it this way because it’s easier to reach from the attic – the outlets will go as far as his arm can reach.

It’s funny – we’ve explained this to builders, electricians, contractors, realtors and designers.  They all get the same dumfounded look on their face.  Sometimes you can see that they just don’t get it, but when they understand the problems this causes, the realization becomes a life lesson -  to the point that they start pointing out faulty pre-wires to clients in hope of obtaining discounts for re-wiring the pre-wiring.

UNDERWATER TV? Not exactly but…

March 4th, 2010

The Theater Doctor sells TV’s that can ‘take a shower’ – but they are expensive.  This is definitely a “cool” factor item.  Imagine your TV under the spray of a water fall!  Well, we got that!!!  Sprinklers hit your TV?  No problem!  It’s so cool!

But if you just want to watch TV outside, we’d recommend you buy a less expensive TV and mount it under an over hang.  Of course, the life of a TV on the Lanai is not comparable to the one within your home, they seem to hold their own and last for quite a few seasons.  By the time it’s unserviceable, you’d probably want an upgrade anyway.  J Call The Theater Doctor to update your current system!

THANK YOU TO ALL OUR FRIENDS WHO BRAVED THE COLD AND THE RAIN TO COME SEE US AT THE GOLF SHOW!!!

March 1st, 2010

Florida’s Largest Golf Show at the Fair Grounds!  WOW!!!  What a turn out!!!  What fun!  We looped our LifeWare video on the big screen, handed out popcorn and provided movies, music and entertainment!  It was our home away from home!  It was so much fun that my son wants to come back next year!  We were glad to hear of so many people building their homes and asking about pre-wiring for Home Automation!!!  They plan to pre-wire and install Home Automation once they move in.  Good call!!!  Just make sure your wire runner knows what he’s doing!

Our next event will be at the Meadow Pointe Community Fair.  This is very low key and plain fun in the sun!  It’s from 10-2 on Saturday March 27 at the MPI “NEW” Clubhouse!!!  Stop by and say Hi!  We look forward to seeing you there!

DID YOU EVER SEE????

Guess what we saw?  A wire runner wrapped a lead weight around a wire and threw it through the rafters!  Hey, the wires are run!  If there’s a break in the line later, who cares?  It’s not his job to fix what he broke, it’s a piece work job and he got the job done – right?

PRE-WIRE FOR YOUR PLAYER PIANO??? YES!!!

February 25th, 2010

Do you have a player piano?  I love the wonderful sound of an actual Piano playing through out the home.  What a peace comes over me when I hear Bach or Motzart floating from an actual instrument.  There is nothing like it.  Wouldn’t it be great if you could hear that tune through out the home?  You can!!!  BUT – it requires planning!  Plan where you want your piano and pre-wire your home.  Heck!  Pre-wire for a player piano anyway!!!  It increases the value of your beautiful home!
